Classic & Comforting Apple Pie

Apple Pie Crust Ingredients:

  • 3 cups Farm2Flour All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1¼ cups butter, chilled
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • Water

Apple Pie Crust Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Mix the butter into the flour using a fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. In a separate cup, whisk together the egg, apple cider vinegar, and enough cold water to make 7/8 cup of liquid.

  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing gently until the dough starts to come together. Avoid over-mixing.

  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently form it into a solid ball. Wrap the dough in a damp kitchen towel and refrigerate for 1 hour.

  5. Divide the chilled dough in half. Roll each portion on a floured surface until it is large enough to hang over the edges of your pie plate by about an inch.

  6. Carefully place one rolled-out crust into the pie plate, pressing it gently to fit.

    Apple Pie Filling Ingredients:

    • ¼ cup Farm2Flour all-purpose flour
    • ¾ cup brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • Pinch of nutmeg
    • 7 medium green apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
    • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) for brushing

    Apple Pie Filling Directions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    2. In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

    3. Place the apple slices in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle the dry mixture over the apples and toss until they are evenly coated.

    4. Arrange the apple mixture inside the pie crust, then drizzle the lemon juice over the top. Scatter the butter pieces over the filling.

    5. Roll out the second dough portion and place it over the filling. You can create a lattice top or cut slits to allow steam to escape. Pinch the edges to seal the pie.

    6. Lightly brush the top crust with the egg wash.

    7. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.

    8. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
